On your side
My name is Dr. Steven Friedman. I am an IMG like you, and have gone through the rigors of examinations, interviews, rejections, hardships, and ultimately the success of obtaining and completing United States post graduate residency training and US licensure in multiple states and jurisdictions.
Though I completed my training decades ago the hard work then was in no way easy. It was still tough to enter residency as an IMG.
Nowadays many think it is more difficult owing to the sheer number of applicants and higher USMLE scores for entry. While this is true it is also true that today the aspiring resident has many more resources at their disposal largely due to the internet, something that did not exist in the era of my training. One could even argue it was more difficult then without the online resources and study materials so widely available today.
I owe a debt of gratitude to those who mentored me and served as role models. Many were IMG's that had been through it and had the benefit of wisdom.
Nowadays though you may need higher scores actual residency is more humane, less cruel from a work hours-sleep deprivation perspective.
I miss and cherish the camaraderie we shared. Medical graduates from many countries around the world. Many smart people indeed, Many different cultures to learn about.
Besides my years in clinical practice I have also lectured and developed a course including simulated patients for IMG's to prepare for USMLE Clinical Skills Exam. This while also sharing my acquired wisdom of the US Postgraduate medical training system.
I am familiar with high yield study options, IMG friendly programs, and how to use networking to your advantage.
